Narrative Slabs Collection, 2022-2023

Ceramic, yarn

"I Walk Back Inside and see my Reflection Crying" - about my eating disorder, written in my notes after a negative eating experience at a restaurant.

"I am so Lucky to LOVE and be loved" - depicting my partner and I, my at-the-time roommates and their cats, with trim done in rainbow yarn tassels.

"It's Hard to Exist, and Yet, I Manage" - written at a mentally difficult time in my life, when I was biking to school and finding joy in that.

"Love Doesn't Need to Destroy You Anymore" - Lyrics from 'A Given Thing' by Weyes Blood, a song that resonates with me to this day.

Metamorphosis, 2022

Ceramic

Constructed from a large extruder piece and smaller extruder pieces, this was a experiment in shapes, positive and negative space, and surface work. The whole process of this was extremely fun, and started my foray into larger extrusion work. Still one of my favorite works to date, my dad keeps it in his office. :)

"Emily's Purple Vase", 2022

I found a glaze recipe online called 'Emily's Purple' while learning to make glazes myself, and after a successful test batch, I wanted something with a larger surface area to test it on. I also wanted to create a vase with some built in structuring for flower arrangement. The purple turned out just how I wanted it to, and I am super happy with the blue that came out as well.

"Stackables" 2023

As I continue to play with extruded forms, I wanted to create something that got some height when combined. Unfortunately the first round of glazing did not work out, and that's seen in the darker maroon drips on the pieces. That was a high fire, so I re-glazed it and did a lower fire, and that's the green, yellow, and orange layer the piece was finished with. Later on I created a person out of clay that was 5 separate extruded forms, but it wasn't as stable or successful as these two.
